Round 14 report

Our Under 10s Navy team took to their Lightning Premiership at Banyule.
We were matched up against 3 opponents that we had beaten in away games during the season, so we had some confidence that we could reach the Grand Final.

Our first game was against Ashburton, probably our most dangerous opposition.
We started well, with the wind, peppering the goals, but were only able to record 3 behinds.
There were some great efforts by Sarosh Ladduwahetty, Ethan Fearnley-Sander and Xavier Haj to keep the ball in our forward half and create opportunities.
Unfortunately Ashburton were able to take the ball coast-to-coast just the once, but their 1 inside 50 resulted in a goal, which proved the difference in the end.
The second half failed to produce a score by either team, but it illustrated our doggedness and application in defense, and we were able to keep them out as they kicked with a significant wind.
Defensive efforts from Luke Budge, Archie Toy and Arad Solaymani were impressive.
The game ended as Joel Budge cleared out from stoppage and was running inside 50 for a shot on goal.
Ultimately, Ashburton timed their key attack that marginally bit better than we did, and that proved the only difference.

Our 2nd game was against Brunswick North, a team we had beaten convincingly previously.
They kicked with the wind in the 1st half and scored the first goal, but this proved their sole score for the day. We proceeded to control the game, with great contributions and forward craft from Torrin Davis, Stephen Allen and Joshua Pezzimenti in the first half.
Then it rained goals in the 2nd half, with us ending up on 6.9.45.
Had we kicked more accurately, we could have even ended up further ahead.
Terrific efforts from Josh Jewell, Joel Budge and Trent Bunker-Smith, and especially Sam Louloudakis as back-stop behind the goals, ensuring that we lost minimal time after goals had been scored.

Our final game, against Camberwell, was a dead rubber, as Ashburton had a narrow, yet unassailable lead. Camberwell kicked with the wind in the 1st half, and while we went scoreless, we kept them to only 2 behinds. Terrific defense and pressure from Luke Budge, Andreas Batikas and Ashley Louloudakis gave us a terrific opportunity to take our final victory of the season.
In the final half, Luke Budge, a “career defender”, moved to full forward, making immediate impact.
While one set shot would have made Levi Casboult look like Tony Lockett, his tackling and marking was a standout and went a long way towards the victory. Similar efforts from Aakash Dhillon and Jared Theurer saw us hold on for a narrow 6 point victory.

In all, it was the best team performance by our group for the whole season. They played a skillful, disciplined and passionate game and teamed up extremely well, sharing the ball and supporting one another. Parents and coaches would agree that they carried themselves very well and should have walked off the ground extremely proud of their efforts and how they
represented Beverley Hills.

A job and a season done very well.
